In addition, Prof. Karanja has a Masters in Business Administration (Project Management) from Kenyatta University, Kenya. Her core duties entail training, research, consultancy and mentoring in the field of Geoinformation. Specifically, her field of specialization is in the application of satellite earth observation data in addressing real life challenges including natural and man-made disasters, food security, poverty, urbanization, climate change effects, etc.
She has published widely in peer reviewed journals and presented papers in international, regional and national conferences. She has served as the Chair of the Department of Geospatial and Space Technology for two terms of six (6) years. She is a Corresponding Member (CM) of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA). She is also a Commissioner in the Research Methodology Commission of IGU. At the National Level she serves as the vice chair of the Land Surveyors Board.
She is also a member of the International Research and Scholarly Exchange Committee of the American Association of Geographers (AAG). She is a STEM Mentor and a Member of the Committee that Co-ordinates UNESCO and Government of Kenya Scientific Camps of Excellence in STEM for High School Girls in Kenya where over 5,000 girls have been mentored.

Beatrice is a Kenyan national currently working for Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) for the past 20 years currently working as Supply Chain Manager-Compliance and Reporting.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree and Bachelor of Social Legislation from the University of Pune in India. Professional Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Management from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, Strategic Leadership Development Program from Kenya School of Government. She is also awaiting graduation in Masterâs in Law (LLM)-Environment and Natural Resource planning at UON and has completed coursework in Masters Business Administration Supply Chain Management Option from Management University of Africa.
She has incomparable skills ranging from Supply Chain Management advanced contract management to resolving complex litigation matters. Coupled with these, she has adept capabilities in Board secretarial services.
She is an experienced business leader in Procurement Law, Energy Law Corporate and Commercial Law and practice, Matters geothermal development with exceptional expertise in Contract Administration, Legal Compliance Corporate law, and project management. A forward thinker fascinated by innovations and excited by challenges that need to be resolved.
One of her greatest achievements in advanced contract management was being the CIT member in the seamless implementation of the 280MW Geothermal Power Plants Projects and the Olkaria V Geothermal Power Project. The project was a landmark 2030 flagship project that attracted international recognition as the worldâs largest geothermal project and also won the KISM award for the best Public Procurement project for being delivered on time and within budget.
Throughout her service in KenGen, she has resolved in totality complex corporate litigation matters that posed major challenges to both the organizationâs existence and shareholderâs interest. Backed by remarkable professional qualifications and apposite work experience her analytical abilities have been sharpened and her problem-solving skills strengthened and fine-tuned by her commercial awareness and business nous.

Mary Orongo is an energy engineering student at Kenyatta University and a passionate advocate for renewable energy. She is dedicated to advancing sustainability through energy efficiency systems, energy management, and energy planning. With a strong belief in continuous learning, upskilling, and mentorship, she actively seeks opportunities to grow and contribute to a more sustainable energy future.
She served as the Chair of the Engineering Students Association - Women in Engineering for the 2023-2025 term, where she advocates for inclusivity, leadership, and the advancement of women in STEM. Her previous leadership roles include Chairperson of the Energy Engineering Club, Vice Chairperson of the Engineering Students Association of Kenyatta University, and Female Delegate for the School of Engineering. These experiences have strengthened her leadership, collaboration, and advocacy skills.
Beyond academics, Mary is actively involved in renewable energy research and community training. As a Student Ambassador for Edu-Cater Global Limited, she contributes to green energy initiatives, helping bridge the gap between theory and real-world applications. She also volunteers with Be The Engineer, where she teaches STEM courses to children and teens, inspiring the next generation of innovators. Additionally, she mentors primary and secondary school students, guiding them in both academics and soft skills development.
Mary is particularly keen on integrating technical expertise with soft skills, recognizing that leadership, communication, and teamwork are just as essential as engineering knowledge in addressing energy challenges. When sheâs not working on energy solutions, she enjoys MCing corporate events, bringing energy and engagement to professional gatherings.

Dr. Eng. Damaris K. Oyaro is the Chair of the IEK Capital Branch and Vice Chair Women Engineering Committee for IEK. She has a B.Sc. in Civil engineering from the University of Nairobi, an M.Sc. in Sanitary Engineering from the Leibniz University of Hannover, and a Doctorate in Civil engineering from The University of Nairobi.
Dr. Eng. Damaris is a Fellow member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) and a professional member of the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). She is a CPA finalist and currently, works as a Lecturer at the University of Nairobi,â Department of Civil and Construction Engineering. She is an accomplished Civil Engineer with over fifteen years of experience and expertise in Water, Sanitation, and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Evi Viza is a Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineer with specialization on Quality Management and Continuous Improvement. She is a Chartered Quality Professional and a Black Belt Lean Six Sigma practitioner. She is member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
Dr. Vizaâs research is centred on applying operations management, quality improvement and lean principles to solve industry problems as well as how they apply to the work of craft groups and in the cottage industry particularly in low resource economies. She has been involved and interdisciplinary research projects with focus on systems approach and sustainability, and gender diversity within STEM across different settings. She has been awarded and participated a number of grants to address gender diversity within Engineering and support economic development for women in the Global South. Examples are:â FemaleINSPIRESâ and as UK partner in 2 Africa Catalyst projects funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, âChanging the landscape within Engineering and Physical Sciences (Equality and Inclusion in industry, academia and research)â funded by the Scottish Funding Council; âBuilding Manufacturing capacity for Kenyan Craft Womenâ by Global Challenges Research Fund.
She has been recently selected as one of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Women in Engineering Ambassadors (WES)
Dr. Viza is working currently as the Program Leader on the MSc Quality Management in the University of the West of Scotland.

Dr. Felicia is an Engineer by profession. She has the requisite experience as a mentor, including over 20 years hands-on experience in Aviation industry and community service. Her mentorship platform has enabled her to support STEM students and young engineers to set career goals and to diligently work towards achieving those goals at various levels of engagement.
She is a STEM and gender equity and inclusion advocate; a committed change agent who is passionate about girl -child education and women empowerment. She has traversed the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria with her âInvent It, Build Itâ initiative under APWEN and awarded scholarships to 81 pupils from primary to university levels. Furthermore, they initiated (7) seven science and technology laboratories in seven states (primary schools) across the six geo political zones in Nigeria in partnership with NNPC under her leadership as APWEN President.
Besides, she is currently building capacity of STEM teachers and building mentorship clubs/ virtual platforms in Nigeria through the âSHEENGINEER Invent It, Build Itâ programme and SheEngineer30% club sponsored by Royal Academy of Engineering UK as a grant awardee. She is a recipient of GCRF phase 3 and 4 African catalyst awards by the Royal Academy of Engineering among others.

Eng. Jennifer Gache is an IEK Ordinary Council Member; a regional expert in Industrial Development and Energy Sectors. Eng. Gache works for GFA Consulting Group, subcontracted by GIZ to support implementation of the âSupport to the East African Market-oriented and People Centered Integration Process- SEAMPECâ in the East African Community (EAC) comprising Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
She is passionate about increasing intra-EAC regional trade by promoting value addition, development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and engagement of private sector in the EAC. In her role, she supports the creation of enabling framework and opportunities for the manufacture and trade of safe and quality assured manufactured products.
Eng. Gache has worked for the Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya Power and Lighting Company, Geothermal Development Company and the East African Community Secretariat (EAC). She holds a Bsc. Eng. Mutulili is a highly accomplished and experienced consulting engineer with over 30 years in the civil engineering sector, specializing in infrastructure projects across Eastern Africa. She holds an MSc in CBIS from Sunderland University (2001) and a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi (1990).
As the Founder and Managing Director of La Femme Engineering Services Ltd, Mutulili leads a dynamic consulting firm that provides innovative and sustainable engineering solutions in water, sanitation, and infrastructure, with a strong focus on the regional markets of Kenya, Somalia, and South Sudan. Her firm works closely with key international clients such as the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, UNHCR, World Vision, and other humanitarian and development organizations, delivering essential services including water supply, food distribution infrastructure, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects for schools and hospitals.
Mutulili is also an active leader in the professional engineering community, serving as Chairperson of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya (ACEK) and as an Executive Committee Member of FIDIC Africa. She previously served as the first vice president of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya. She is a Registered Consulting Engineer, an Accredited Checker with the Engineers Board of Kenya, and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (F.I.E.K.).
Beyond her technical expertise, Mutulili is deeply committed to supporting the educational sector, serving as a Board Member of Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School, and plays a pivotal role in promoting sustainable engineering practices throughout the region.

Eng. Shammah Kiteme is the President of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). He is a skilled civil structural engineer in practice. He has more than 15 years of experience in the fields of waste water treatment and structural engineering.
He has provided consultations in Kenya and other African nations. Using diverse teams of engineers from several nations, he has completed important projects. Eng. Shammah, He holds certifications from Project Management InternationalâUSA as a qualified PMPÂŽââ and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) as a licensed consulting engineer.
Eng. Shammah, a fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, has led the engineering field in the creation of technical standards, specifications, and design evaluations. This includes his nomination to the National Committee on Implementation of Eurocodes, where he will serve as a committee member.
Eng. Shammah Kiteme writes opinion pieces in the dailies and has written articles in all the major dailies. He regularly comments on Engineering and infrastructure matters in TV talks and other media Interviews.
Eng. Shammah Chairs a committee on Construction Working Group under the Federation of Africa Engineering Organizations (FAEO). He was also appointed by the PS Public Works to be a committee member of the National Committee on finalization of the Building Code. The Building Code 2024 was published on 1st March 2024.

She holds a Bsc in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi, a continuing masterâs student in Water resources Engineering at the University of Nairobi and a Masters of Science in Project Management (DeKUT). She has over 20 yearsâ experience as an engineer in both structural and water engineering. At IEK, she is the Chairperson, IEK Central Kenya Branch and the Chair of Memorandum of Partnerships committee. She also serves as a member of the Board at Nyeri Water and Sanitation Company (NYEWSCO).

Engineer Sharon Musonda is a dedicated and self-driven engineering professional with over 20 years of experience. Holding a Bachelorâs degree in Engineering and a Master of Science in Environmental Management, she is the founder and CEO of Dichem Consultancy and Engineering Services Limited, one of Zambiaâs leading women-led engineering firms in the environmental sector.
As a former Vice President of the Engineering Institution of Zambia, Sharon was instrumental in overseeing membership and Continuous Professional Development. She has successfully managed more than 30 Environmental Impact Assessment projects across both government and private sectors, with a total value exceeding $100 million, including significant European Union initiatives.
Engineer Sharon is recognized for her strategic thinking, exceptional planning, organizing, and analytical skills, which have driven innovative solutions to complex problems. She has transformed her company from a bootstrap venture into a well-financed legal entity, fostering strong relationships that enhance project management success.
An accomplished mentor, Engineer Sharon actively engages with the KUPES Young Womenâs Network, which boasts over 4,000 members. She has participated in numerous mentorship programs on radio and television and has received several accolades, including the Women Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 and the Phenomenal Woman in Engineering 2020 under the PUSH women network.
Her leadership skills have led her to serve on multiple boards, including being Past Vice President of Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) in charge of Membership and Continuous Professional Development which has a membership of over 60,000, Theme lead on the World Federation of Engineers (WFEO) under the women in Engineering section, SAFEO fundraising committee member and Past Vice Chair of the EIZ Benevolent Fund. Currently, she is serving as a board Chair of the KUPES Young Womenâs Network with a membership of over 5,000 young women, Board member under African Enterprise an organization that aims at alleviating the social status of vulnerable communities in Africa, Board member for the University Graduates and start- up movement an organization that helps students and graduates navigate around being relevant in the communities where they are and help start their entrepreneurship journey.

Dr. Ann Nderitu is the Registrar of Political Parties in Kenya. She is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Accounting Officer of the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). The Registrar is responsible for strategic and visionary leadership for effective implementation of ORPPâs mandate of registration, regulation of political parties and Administration of Political Parties Fund. Since 2018 at which she assumed ORPP apex leadership, she has been instrumental in streamlining registration and compliance of political parties; forging strategic partnerships and collaborations; reengineering internal processes including customer service delivery models, digitalization of all critical services and spearheaded establishment of innovative and creative human capital.
Ms. Nderitu is a seasoned public service professional with specialization in Public Administration; Elections Management and Governance spanning over 24 years. Further, she is an accredited BRIDGE Facilitator which has made her excel in election and governance training locally, regionally and internationally. She holds a Bachelor of Education (English/Literature), Masterâs Degree in Linguistics, Diploma in Public Administration and an honorary Doctorate in Corporate Governance among other certifications. Currently she is a PHD student in Organizational Leadership.
As a transformational servant leader, Ann has spearheaded institutional reforms such legal reforms, ICT, business re-engineering, policy reforms. Ms. Nderitu has also served in National taskforces among them taskforces on education system reforms, electoral legal reforms, boundaries de-limitation, political parties nomination framework, two-thirds Gender Principle Taskforce. The reports of the taskforces culminated in parliamentary bills, legal and policy reforms.
Ms. Nderituâs contribution in leadership and promotion of good governance has been recognized through three Presidential Awards â Moran of Burning Spear (MBS), Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) and Trail Blazer Award for Women Leadership and Inclusion. She has also steered ORPP in bagging major awards on prudent Public Finance Management and Reporting (FiRe Awards) for five years in a row. ORPP has also won National Diversity & Inclusion Awards & Recognition (DIAR) for three consecutive years.
Ann is a firm believer that responsiveness, effective communication, justice and fairness are the bedrock of good corporate governance which result to timely service delivery.
Besides being a corporate leader, she is also very passionate on youth, women and Persons with Disabilities empowerment. She has successfully steered empowerment and mentorship programmes across the country, with many young people and aspiring women leaders having been molded through her impactful initiatives.

Mr. Meda Benard Othero is the founder and Executive Director of Citizen Advancement Initiative (CAI). His enthusiasm and expertise are on good governance to which he draws his experience from continental organizations such as the African Peer Review Mechanism, an agency of the African Union. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in International Studies at the Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies, University of Nairobi. He is a former adjunct lecturer at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), conversely, he took students through political science and international relations disciplines.
Besides being an Executive Director of Citizen Advancement Initiative, he also doubles up as the acting Executive Director of Diplomacy Scholars Association of Kenya, a professional association that his fellow PhD scholars together with him founded in 2019 to provide a platform for research, publishing, scholarly debates and interaction with policy makers and the society at large in the area of international affairs.
Mr. Meda is characterized by extensive skills and competencies in strategic frameworks of management, visionary leadership, strategy formulation and implementation.

Prof. Eng. Bernadette Waswa Sabuni holds a PhD in Disaster Preparedness and Engineering Management specializing in engineering disaster mitigation in terms of use of alternative and appropriate building materials and technologies, MPhil and BSc in Civil Engineering. She is a Civil engineer by profession, Registered by Engineers Board of Kenya and a member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya. She is a member of Association of Disaster Management and Conflict Resolution of Kenya and member of Association of African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE).
Prof. Sabuni started her career at Nairobi City Council as assistant Engineer, University of Nairobi as Chief Technologist, then Research Fellow. Her academic and research interests are in engineering structures and building materials. The cost of building materials is on the rise becoming unaffordable to majority of our population. Use of alternative building materials and technologies is recommended to reduce cost of construction. While at Housing and Building Research Institute, University of Nairobi, she worked with a team that researched and disseminated low cost building materials which included stabilized soil blocks and pozzolana cements. It is worth noting that the cement in use now is Portland Pozzolana, where the manufacturers use natural pozzolanas. Stabilized soil blocks are now in use. Her research interest currently is in the use of artificial pozzolanas, especially ashes from agricultural wastes which are environmental hazards, such as sugar cane bagasse ash, rice husk ash in construction. At Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Prof. Sabuni has been a chairperson of Civil and Structural Engineering Department, Quality Assurance Director, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic & Student Affairs and is currently serving as the Dean, School of Engineering and Built Environment, where she has been leading a programme on Industry-Academia Linkages, sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering under the Higher Education Partnerships in the Sub-Saharan Africa (HEPSSA). I the year 2021, Prof. B. Sabuni received a âDistinguished woman in Engineering Education Awardâ for having played a significant role in engineering education in Kenya.
As a quality assurance director, she spearheaded processes at the University to ISO 9001:2008 certification. She is a trained Lead Quality Auditor. Prof. Sabuni continues to do monitoring and evaluation of processes at MMUST.
She is serving her second term as Trustee member of the MMUST Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme.
She attained her PhD Disaster Preparedness and Engineering Management (2015), from MMUST and MPhil in Civil Engineering University of Glamorgan, Wales, UK (1992). She holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from University of Nairobi (1989).
She is Member of Engineering Board of Kenya (A3010), Institution of Engineers of Kenya (M4630), Association of Disaster Management and Conflict Resolution of Kenya, and a certified Lead Quality Auditor.

Eng. Petronilla Apiyo Ogut, OGW holds a Bachelorâs degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Hydroinformatics, and a Masterâs in Business Administration. A registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), she brings over 35 years of experience in the water sector, spanning engineering design, construction supervision, policy formulation, and strategic leadership.
She currently serves as the Advisor on Water and Sanitation to the Governor of Makueni County, where she provides strategic and technical guidance to advance the countyâs water and sanitation development agenda. Her role supports policy formulation, planning, implementation, and stakeholder engagementâensuring alignment with the County Integrated Development Plan, national policies, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
From October 2022 to February 2025, Eng. Ogut served as the Deputy Team Leader and Water Resources Specialist in a regional consultancy project aimed at strengthening the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) in Kisumu, Kenya, and supporting the East African Community in Arusha, Tanzania, on Integrated Water Resources Management. Representing GFA-Zutari at the LVBC Secretariat, she led the day-to-day implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of project components. She managed a pool of consultants, provided technical and organizational advice to LVBC, ensured coordination with GIZ and KfW-financed initiatives, oversaw procurement, budget monitoring, & maintained liaison with key counterparts & stakeholders in the region.
Previously, she held leadership roles as the Chief Executive Officer of the Lake Victoria South Water Services Board and Managing Director of the National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation. In these positions, she was responsible for overseeing the implementation of large-scale dam, water supply, and sanitation infrastructure projects. As the Secretary to the Boards of Directors in both institutions, she ensured adherence to corporate governance principles, timely documentation of board decisions, and effective policy development and execution.
Her extensive expertise includes leadership and strategy, engineering planning and design, contract and construction management, gender inclusion, institutional capacity building, and stakeholder engagement. She has also actively promoted young professionals in the field, initiating and managing internship programs, and mentoring over 12 graduate engineers to professional registration.
Eng. Ogut is currently the Chairperson of the IEK Mentorship Board, a member of the IEK Membership and Welfare Committee, and a panelist for Professional Interviews in the Water specialization. She previously served on IEKâs Events and Conference Committee, Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.
She has reached out to over 1,000 female students in schools, advocating for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and championing womenâs participation in engineering. She regularly collaborates with universities and professional networks to promote gender equity in the sector.
